Liguria: Italy’s most beautiful sea

With 72 beaches and 18 docks listed in the region, Liguria is the region with the highest number of Blue Flags in Italy for its crystal clear waters and top services: That’s why the region has Italy’s most beautiful sea!

Liguria brands itself as the “queen” of Blue Flags after ranking first in the country for the 17th consecutive year in the classification of the most beautiful and cleanest beaches.

The 40° edition of the Blue Flags ranking sees Liguria triumph once again: with 72 certified blue flag beaches, 18 landings were also added involving 35 districts from East to West. A true national success!

The ranking is carried out by the FEE, the Foundation for Environmental Education. It is based on numerous evaluation criteria. Consideration is certainly given to the quality of the sea (which must have been of “excellent” quality in the last 4 years), but also to the presence of green and pedestrian areas, cycle paths, well-kept outdoor furniture, as well as, above all, efficient sewage treatment and waste separation or the presence of useful services, information, and environmental education.

Divided by province, here are the 35 districts where certified beaches are located, plus 2 newcomers – Borgio Verezzi and Recco:

  • Province of Imperia: Ventimiglia, Bordighera, Sanremo, Taggia, Riva Ligure, Santo Stefano al Mare, San Lorenzo al Mare, Imperia e Diano Marina
