Giro d’Italia 2026: two stages in Liguria
The 109th Giro d’Italia 2026 includes a stage finish and start in Liguria: 20 and 21 May 2026
With its breathtaking panoramas and roads that climb between sea and mountains, Liguria is one of the most fascinating regions for cycling enthusiasts. During the 109th Giro d’Italia 2026 the region will host two stages that promise to be unforgettable: Porcari – Chiavari on 20 May and Imperia – Novi Ligure on 21 May. These will be the 11th and 12th stages respectively, following the Grand Start of the Corsa Rosa from the picturesque Nessebar peninsula in Bulgaria.
The Ligurian stages will pass through landscapes that combine the beauty of the Ligurian coastline with the tranquillity of its medieval villages. Routes that will test the riders while offering spectacular scenery, providing the backdrop for two days of great sport in one of Italy’s most fascinating regions. The Giro in Liguria? Porcari-Chiavari: 20 May
The stage, 178 km long and with 2700 m of altitude difference, starts in Porcari, in the heart of Tuscany, and arrives in Chiavari, on the Riviera di Levante. The route crosses the Apennine hinterland and the Gulf of Tigullio, with short but challenging climbs. The final part includes a serious climb just a few kilometres from the finish, which will make the last few metres decisive. The finish in Chiavari, one of the most charming villages in the area, will offer a thrilling finale, with the finish line lending itself to a final challenge.
Imperia-Novi Ligure: 21 May
The next day, the race goes up the Ligurian coast, starting from Imperia and continuing towards Piedmont, partly retracing the Savona coastal section of the Milano-Sanremo. The 177-kilometre route alternates fast sections along the Ligurian coast, with breathtaking views of the sea, with more technical passages in the hinterland of Alessandria. The finale, with the finish in Novi Ligure, the land of Coppi and Girardengo, is suitable for both hardy sprinters and well-organised breakaways. A stage that celebrates the Ligurian cycling tradition and that, after the previous day’s fatigue, could hold surprises in an area rich in history and beauty.
