What is the World Press Photo Exhibition
The World Press Photo Exhibition is one of the most important international exhibitions dedicated to photojournalism and documentary photography, an unmissable event for anyone visiting Genoa who wishes to discover the world through authentic and powerful images. It is not just an exhibition, but a true visual journey through stories, faces and realities that reflect our times, inviting us to pause, observe and reflect.
In an increasingly complex global context, the exhibition takes on an even deeper significance: it celebrates the value of press freedom, which is becoming increasingly fragile today. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, 129 journalists were killed in 2025, making it the deadliest year on record.
Since 1955, the World Press Photo Contest has been recognising the best international photojournalism every year, bringing together stories from every corner of the globe. The 2026 edition saw the participation of thousands of photographers, with over 57,000 images from 141 countries: a global perspective that takes shape within the exhibition halls.
Among the most eagerly awaited photographs, the World Press Photo of the Year 2026, taken by Carol Guzy, ‘Separated by ICE’ powerfully tells a story of migration and separation in the United States.
