Excursion along the Sanctuary Route from Vernazza to Monterosso
The trail starts in the picturesque village of Vernazza and, although it is one of the most beautiful routes in the park, it is relatively uncrowded.We first ascend an ancient road between impressive terraces with vineyards. We then reach a very beautiful and peaceful place, where there is a Marian shrine surrounded by centuries-old trees. There is also an 800-year-old cypress tree! We continue uphill through fragrant Mediterranean scrub, always enjoying wonderful views of the sea.Finally, we reach another Marian sanctuary, the sanctuary of the Madonna di Soviore, one of the oldest churches in Liguria. The large, shady forecourt with a refreshment area is ideal for a break.We then descend via an ancient mule track to the historic centre of Monterosso.Duration approx. 5 hours, altitude difference +/- 550 m, approx. 10 kmWhat you need: Hiking boots, rucksack, water, picnic, sunscreen and hat, water-resistant jacket.Note: The path is often steep and uneven, therefore it requires good hiking practice.www.levantetrails.com
