Nervi Music Ballet Festival 2024

From June 14th to July 28th, the Nervi Music Ballet Festival returns, with a month of dance and music between the parks of Nervi and Carlo Felice Theatre, featuring premieres or exclusive performances, concerts, major stars, and étoiles. The event will kick off with a preview from June 14th to 16th, “Il Sogno di Nervi, Memorial of the International Ballet Festival,” dedicated to Marcio Porcile, founder of the Nervi Ballet.

Roberto Bolle and Friends

The dance programme gets into full swing on June 28th with the highlight of every Italian season: the gala “Roberto Bolle and Friends.” Returning for the third consecutive time, it launches its summer tour in the parks. Bolle, Italy’s most popular dancer, approaching 50, continues to ensure sold-out audiences and loyal travel companions, his young friends and virtuoso international étoiles.

Nervi Music Ballet Festival and Teatro della Scala Theatre

Another prominent presence is the “Corpo di ballo del Teatro alla Scala”: on July 21st, they will perform at Carlo Felice with a mixed programme, including “Reveal” by Garreth Smith to music by Philip Glass, “Skew-Whiff” by Sol León and Paul Lightfoot to the Overture from Rossini’s “The Thieving Magpie.” There’s also a reinterpretation of Johann Strauss’s operetta, “Cantata” by Mauro Bigonzetti to music by Amerigo Ciervo, “Donizetti pas de deux” by Manuel Legris to music by Donizetti, and “Blake Works (Excerpts)” by William Forsythe to music by James Blake.

Other Dates

On June 30th, “SER” arrives, an Italian preview inspired by the allure of Iberian culture and the gypsy spirit. Then on July 3rd, there’s a mixed evening of music and dance with “Il nostro amico fragile,” a tribute to Fabrizio De André, hosted by Alice De André. Guest stars Eleonora Abbagnato and Cristiano De André. The Azerbaijan State Ballet Theatre presents the ballet “A Legend of Love” on July 6th, offering a glimpse into Soviet choreographic art from the 1960s. On July 12th, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne returns. On July 19th and 20th, the Hamburg Ballet John Neumeier arrives with “Ein Sommernachtstraum – A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The Astana Ballet Theatre will be in Nervi on July 24th with “Carmen Suite” and “A Fuego Lento.” The Festival concludes on July 28th with the inevitable gala of “Youth America Grand Prix Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow.”

Completing the programme are musical events ranging from jazz to pop to rock: on July 4th, the “Concerto grosso for the New Trolls,” dedicated to Vittorio De Scalzi. July 9th features a date from Tony Hadley’s new Italian tour with the “Fabulous TH Band, Mad About You.” Jazz takes the spotlight on July 14th with “Kind of Bill,” featuring pianist Dado Moroni, bassist Eddie Gomez, and drummer Joe La Barbera, with Paolo Fresu as a special guest. July 25th presents Edoardo Bennato with his historic band, performing a selection of new songs from the latest album “Non c’è.”
