The Pumpkin Exhibition in Murta

The spectacular and delicious Pumpkin Exhibition in Murta returns on November the 11th and 12th, with a second weekend on November the 18th and 19th.

Long and plump, colourful and never the same. Pumpkins are one of the symbols of autumn, often associated with Halloween, but they were already known in the time of the Phoenicians, although they truly gained popularity after the discovery of America. They are fun, and even their scientific name is amusing: cucurbits. For 37 years, pumpkins have had their own capital: Murta, a hilly district of Genoa, in the Val Polcevera area. This is where the famous Pumpkin Exhibition in Murta takes place.

The festival commences on Saturday, November 11th, continuing to Sunday, November 12th, with a repeat weekend starting on Saturday, November 18th, with its last day on Sunday, November 19th. The theme for 2023 is “Pumpkins between sports and games. Staying in shape with cucurbits.” The exhibition stands, set up next to the Murta parish, showcase the renowned garden fruit in all its forms. There are also delicious themed dishes, pumpkin jams, pumpkin pasta, and pumpkin desserts. Prizes will be awarded for the largest pumpkin, the longest pumpkin, the strangest pumpkin, and the most beautiful pumpkin.
