The Ancient Limone-Monesi Salt Route

The Limone-Monesi Salt Route is located between Piedmont and Liguria. It’s an impressive route that winds its way between 1,800 and 2,100 metres above sea level on an ancient military road.

The trail which is entirely unpaved, connects the two towns and has a total length of 39 km. It is open to traffic during the summer and autumn months and is accessible to hikers and cyclists. The road is also open to motorcycles however, with a toll.

The route passes through enchanting places such as the evocative area of Carsene with its lunar landscapes, the pristine environments of the Protected Areas of the Maritime Alps and the Ligurian Alps Park characterised by  its rich biodiversity, the wonderful Bosco delle Navette and the late nineteenth-century military fortifications.

Daily permits are issued directly at fixed control points located in the locations mentioned above.
