Picasso, Van Gogh, Man Ray and many others. This 2023 summer, art is at home in Liguria. Here are the six exhibitions you cannot miss.

Picasso in Sarzana

The Origins of Myth is the title of Pablo Picasso's exhibition on show until 16 July at the Fortezza Firmafede in Sarzana. On display are 18 photographs, some taken by Juan Gyenes, from the Gyenes Archive, and others by Robert Capa, as well as lithographs, aquatints, etchings, drypoints, pottery and the famous Tête de femme painting. www.fortezzafirmafede.it

Sarenco in La Spezia

The Audience of Humanity is Sarenco's exhibition on show until 14 January 2024; Sarenco at the CAMeC Modern and Contemporary Art Centre in La Spezia. One of the most significant interpreters of the second half of the 20th century in Italy and internationally, Sarenco is recounted through 170 works, in which he confirms himself as a great visual poet, performer, explorer, director, editor, photographer. www.camec.museilaspezia.it

Van Gogh and Man Ray in Genoa

The format is back at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa: a face-to-face experience with the great masterpieces of art. This time, it is the turn of another famous artist, Vincent van Gogh. The work exhibited is Landscape with Haystacks and Rising Moon painted in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in July 1889. Until 10 September 2023, this masterpiece will be on display in the wonderful Doge's Chapel in the Doge's Palace, to be admired in an intimate, close and exclusive way. By the great image genius Man Ray you can find photographs, drawings, paintings, sculptures and films: more than three hundred works on display at the Doge's Palace recounting the work and life of the 20th century genius Emmanuel Radnitzky, aka Man Ray. Wisława Szymborska at Villa Croce

La Gioia di scrivere (The Joy of Writing) is the title of the exhibition that opened on 16 June and can be visited at the Modern Art Museum at Villa Croce in Genoa until 3 September 2023. It includes 85 collages made by the poet and along the path you will find 100 maxims extracted from Wisława Szymborska's poems. www.museidigenova.it

Wilfredo Lam in Savona and Albissola

The exhibition Lam et les Magiciens de la Mer, open at the Ceramics Museum in Savona and at MuDA museum in Albissola Marina, can be visited until 10 September 2023. Totems, figures and primordial signs in Albisola Ceramics between the 1950s and 1970s dedicated to Wilfredo Lam, a Cuban artist who was able to create a syncretic artistic language combining European modernity with surrealist influences, and Afro-Cuban culture with tropical nuances. www.musa.savona.it

Sanremo Street Photo Festival

From 23 June to 02 July 2023, Sanremo will host the first edition of the 'Sanremo Street Photo Festival': 10 days full of encounters and suggestions where contemporary street photography will be the absolute protagonist. In the interior rooms of Forte Santa Tecla, you will have a chance to admire as many as 13 leading authors, from Maude Bardet, Richard Bram, Gerard and Mathilda Dubois to Massimiliano Faralli. From Julie Hrudova, Salvatore Matarazzo, Mario Mencacci, Stefano Mirabella, Alessandro Prato Atko, Valerie Six to Valeria Tofanelli and Umberto Verdoliva.
