Castelnuovo Magra is a municipality in the Val di Magra: Awarded a Touring Club "Orange flag" for its environmental and tourist quality, the town was founded in the twelfth century as a stronghold and residence of the bishops of Luni. Its particular position allows a 360° panorama over the Vara valley and, on a clear day, you can see the Tuscan archipelago and Corsica. From here you enter the Magra Park, which you can walk or MBT, canoe along the Vara River, or sail along the Magra River.

Dante’s Peace

Castelnuovo Magra is also known for a special event;on 6th October 1306, in the episcopal castle, the Supreme Poet signed a peace agreement between the Bishop of Luni and the Marquises Malaspina of Fosdinovo. This event is remembered each year with numerous events and historical re.enactments.
