Between Camogli and San Rocco

The path from Camogli to Porto Pidocchio via San Rocco is well-known: a hike along an enchanting coastal stretch with rocks plunging into the sea and lush Mediterranean scrub.

If after this long walk you want to return comfortably to Camogli, you can do so thanks to the Golfo Paradiso tourist boat services. If you want to undertake this walk “more comfortably”, start by taking the regional train from Genova Brignole in the direction of La Spezia and, in about half an hour, you will arrive in Camogli.

Once there, the road up to San Rocco is immediately on the left: a stepped staircase that runs alongside the Gentile stream. Arriving in San Rocco, you will be greeted by small colourful houses and the Church of San Rocco, where you can cool down at the fountain below. Panoramic photos are mandatory from here!

Along the path leading to the parish church of San Rocco, you will see the church of San Nicolò di Capodimonte. A splendid Romanesque construction from the 12th century. Opposite it, you can admire a villa with a beautiful risseu depicting the phases of the moon. Risseau is a typical Ligurian technique used on churchyards and squares to construct designs and ornaments with sea and river pebbles.

Continuing the descent towards Porto Pidocchio, along a shady path of mixed forest, you can rest and cool down for a few moments in some nearby restaurants. Continuing on, you will find the Fishing Museum, which houses documents, fishing tools and an interactive video station. The structure was created in the warehouse once used by fishermen, located opposite the Tonnarella di Camogli.

After arriving at Porto Pidocchio, head towards the pier to return to Camogli by sea. Thus begins the walk along the seafront, where you can admire the wonderful spectacle of houses reddened by the setting sun….the ideal place to have an aperitif by the sea.
