The most spectacular beaches in Liguria
The little Balzi Rossi beach, also known as egg beach due to the unique shape of its stones, was included among the 7 most spectacular beaches in Italy by Forbes magazine. In fact, it ranks first. ‘A charming way to get to the Balzi Rossi beach,’ the article says, ‘in Grimaldi di Ventimiglia, near the French border, a local reference, with a restaurant and good services…’.
The Baia dei Saraceni in Varigotti is the most popular beach in Liguria. It is long, wide, free, with grainy white sand and a very clear sea with turquoise and emerald hues. It is also right next to the beautiful rocky cliffs of Capo Noli. It can be accessed easily from the Aurelia road, and the entrance fee includes cleaning of the beach and access to the toilets and showers.
San Fruttuoso is a beautiful bay that can only be reached on foot or by boat and has just 50 residents. Near this beautiful beach are the Abbey, the Church, the Doria Tower and, offshore, the famous Christ of the Abyss
The village of Sestri Levante is unique for its long promontory and the beauty of its two beaches that, if you look at them from Punta Manara, almost seem to touch. The lively and well-equipped Baia delle Favole is different, with an open view of the sea. The enchanting Baia del Silenzio is more secluded, with its transparent, shallow sea, the little houses on the beach reflecting pastel colours and dozens of fishing boats anchored on the water.
The Fegina beach in Monterosso is the largest in the Cinque Terre, as well as the only sandy one. With its crystal clear blue water, it is both spectacular because of its location and also convenient because it is in front of the village. Along the Cinque Terre path there are many wonderful bays, accessible by sea or along paths for experienced walkers.
