Main reasons for visiting the Porto Venere Park

Did you know that there is a flower that grows only in the Porto Venere Park? It is the Porto Venere Fiordaliso (Cornflower), a rare gem perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea.
It is a purple plant that belongs to the Compositae family, the same as the common daisy and dandelion, but has not yet been thoroughly studied. A small treasure to be watched, defended and preserved, until, at least, its seeds, which are carried by the wind by their tiny, whitish hairs, spread quietly over the headland.

Porto Venere overflows with beauty, so much so that it won Eugenio Montale‘s heart and in 1997 it was declared, together with its archipelago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Church of St. Peter, with its typical black and white horizontal striped architecture, is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular sights in the Mediterranean. Suspended, firm, mystical, slapped by the spray of the waves, caressed by seagulls’ wings, the Church seems to be the place where the world stops and infinity begins.

The Porto Venere Park must be experienced fully: from culture, to nature, to sports activities. Enjoy the area by trekking along the trails, or venture on a climb to the Muzzerone climbing wall. If you prefer the sea, dive into the waters of the Marine Conservation Area for diving, snorkelling or sailing lessons.
