Borgio Verezzi Theatre Festival

The Borgio Verezzi Theatre Festival, one of the most significant cultural events in the Ligurian region, will take place from July 5th to August 14th, 2024.

What magic: theatre in an ancient village under a summer moon. Only in Borgio Verezzi!

The Borgio Verezzi Theatre Festival, 58th edition this year, is a national theatrical review showcasing numerous premieres for the upcoming winter season.

The festival

The Borgio Verezzi Theatre Festival is a prestigious summer event held in Borgio Verezzi since its founding in 1967 by Enrico Rembado, a historic mayor. The performances take place in the enchanting setting of Piazza Sant’Agostino, a naturally suited venue for theatre. Over the years, many actors, directors, and entertainment personalities have graced its stage.

Programme

There will be 13 performances spread over 24 evenings from July 5th to August 14th. This year, the Festival’s Artistic Direction has been entrusted to Stefano Delfino, who will highlight new generations, literary classics, contemporary comedy, and local resources, showcasing the value of great stage craftsmanship. This is reflected in the festival poster designed by illustrator Sergio Olivotti, which depicts the actor’s mirror play and theatre’s ability to dress the world’s kaleidoscope with a multitude of costumes that make up the colourful beauty of life.

During the Festival, the Veretium Prize, a national prose award, is presented by the jury to the actor or actress who has particularly distinguished themselves in the past theatre season through text engagement and interpretive skill. The Best Emerging Actor Award, named since 2018 after the Agostino De Mari Foundation, will go to Valentina Olla, who starred in 2023 as all of Stan Laurel’s wives.

The full programme will soon be available on the festival’s website.
