Finalborgo comes alive with the Middle Ages
Experience a true journey back to the Middle Ages, in Finalborgo, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Held on August 22 to 25, 2024
A true journey back to the Middle Ages. Finalborgo returns to the 1400s during ‘Journey into the Middle Ages‘: the ancient village (among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy) will be animated and adorned with medieval banners, festoons, and insignia. A highly anticipated medieval dinner at the ‘Locanda dei Cavalieri,’ set up for the occasion in the Cloisters of Santa Caterina, will take place. Additionally, there will be combat and courteous duels by mercenary knights in the squares and streets, which will be filled with street performers, actors, fire-eaters, jugglers, musicians, dancers, flag throwers, falconers, knights, archers, swordsmen, innkeepers, and tavern keepers, culminating in the final battle on Sunday evening, where all the ‘fighting’ participants will take part in a mock battle in the bed of the Aquila River. The historical reason for this reenactment is: ‘…AD 1452, Finalborgo. Marquis Giovanni del Carretto, after defeating the Genoese invader and recapturing the village in a single night, decreed four days of celebrations for his allies…”
Certainly one of the most successful settings in Italy, organised by the Cultural Association Centro Storico del Finale.
