Ineja 2025

Imperia celebrates its patron saint with the 45th edition of the Feast of St John with Ineja, in June 2025.

The Event

On 24th June, the Feast of St John the Baptist is the most significant day for the “Ciantafurche,” the residents of Oneglia (Ineja), a district of Imperia. The other district, Porto Maurizio, honours St Leonard on 26th November. Tradition holds that during these festivities, stoccafisso, a dried fish from the Baltic that takes on new life in Liguria, is the dish of choice. However, at the large communal tables set up in Calata Cuneo, you’ll also find many “Cacelotti,” the inhabitants of Porto Maurizio.

Ineja

“Ineja” in the local dialect means “Oneglia,” the more “Piedmontese” part of Imperia, known for its arcades, port, and the factories of what was once the Agnesi pasta company. At Banchina Aicardi, by the port of Oneglia, the Mercantineja fair will be held once again, now in its 16th edition, featuring exhibition and commercial stands showcasing many local excellences, especially extra virgin olive oil, the “gold” of Imperia. At the numerous food stands, a wide range of specialities will be on offer: besides the delicious stoccafisso all’onegliese, there will be brandacujon, mussels, zemin di pesce, fried calamari, fried anchovies, minestrone, cundijun (a traditional Ligurian salad), meats, wines from the inland areas, and craft beer.
