Vele d’epoca 2024
Vele d’epoca (International Sailing Week) a spectacular event that involves the entire city of Imperia, will run from September 11th to 15th, 2024.
A mandatory stop for the most prestigious sailing events in Liguria and the Mediterranean, the Vintage Sails from September 11 to 15, 2024, gathers in Imperia the stars of the main classic regattas of the Mare Nostrum. Thousands of enthusiasts and onlookers will arrive in the city of Edmondo de Amicis. The event will involve the two parts of Imperia, Oneglia and Porto Maurizio, from Wednesday, September 6 to Sunday, September 10, for an unforgettable experience among sails, sea, flavours, and colours.
The history
Since its first edition in 1986, born from the idea of the visionary director of Portosole Sanremo, Commander Pier Franco Gavagni, the event has seen dozens of sailboats compete in the waters of Imperia between the first and second week of September.
The event
Each edition features competitions for vintage hulls in various categories: yachts made of wood or metal built up to 1950 (Vintage category), up to 1976 (Classic category), and between 1970 and 1984 (Classic IOR category), as well as ‘Spirit of Tradition’ boats with a maximum hull length of ten metres, and international class 8mR yachts. Numerous side events are linked to the main sporting event, from various themed exhibitions to the traditional ‘fireworks at sea’ and the unmissable parade of participants. Don’t miss the opportunity to taste local delicacies, from the ‘Pissalandrea,’ the Imperia version of the famous Sardenaira, to a chunk of Carpasina soaked in oil, the true gold of the entire Imperia region.
