Punta Manara: between two seas and two villages
Portofino and the Tigullio
It is one of the most scenic and famous sea excursions on the East Coast Riviera: from the ancient village of Sestri Levante, the city of two seas, to that of Riva Trigoso, the Punta Manara itinerary is the perfect choice for those who want to immerse themselves in the typical Ligurian landscape. It starts from vico del Bottone, in the historic centre of Sestri Levante, five minutes from the railway station: from here, follow the signs for Punta Manara, passing under a vault of typical Ligurian houses.
Two red squares
The path to follow is marked with two red squares and proceeds uphill but with many flat sections. You will reach Colla Mandrella, where there is a crossroad, leaving the branch off to the left that cuts across the northern slope of Monte Castello. Continue through the typical greenery of the Mediterranean maquis, walking among ancient olive trees, holm oaks, strawberry trees and maritime pines. Several benches, placed in particularly scenic spots, will allow for pleasant stops and offer ideal locations for picnics.
A breathtaking panorama
In a quarter of an hour you will reach the Manara bivouac, also known as the
Descent to the sea
Descending to the right, you will first reach the classic country hamlet of Ginestra and then the second hamlet of Le Rocche, followed by a couple of hairpin bends leading to the road linking Riva and Trigoso. Continuing in the direction of the sea, you will reach the renovated promenade next to a wide and beautiful beach, which is very popular in the high season. A refreshing dip will conclude an unforgettable walk.
