Sport climbing in the Finale area

Open all year round, world-famous and set in fantastic natural surroundings. The routes of free climbing in Liguria pass through Finale Ligure and the surrounding area. Here, sport climbing developed over half a century old and today the Finale area is one of the international havens of this discipline. The very distinctive limestone rock, characterised by holes and “drop” holds, makes the destination one of the most technical in the world.

First Stage

Getting to Finale by car or train is easy, as there is a motorway junction here and also a railway station. Finale is a magical place, with many hamlets and villages worth a visit. A must-see before climbing is Orco, a hamlet perched on high ground between the Sciusa and Aquila Valleys. The rock engravings of Ciappo dei Ceci and Ciappo delle Conche can be found here.

Second stage

The most famous climbs are in the “Bric Spaventaggi” area and on Monte Cucco, with a total of 13 sectors, which over the years have attracted climbers from all over the world. Sport climbing in Finale Ligure, Castel Bianco, Toirano or the crags of the Ligurian Alps is a unique experience. They can be climbed all year round, especially in autumn, winter and spring, often overlooking the sea or hidden in the Mediterranean maquis on mostly fantastic rock. There is neither for all levels, from beginner to expert. In the evening - after much climbing and a visit to Finalborgo, with its monuments and historic centre - the third stop can only be a restful one: sipping an aperitif or having dinner in one of the many waterfront small restaurants in Finalmarina.
