Albenga town

As you stroll through the heart of the city, you can admire the beauty of centuries of history as witnessed by the sumptuous palaces and numerous towers that stand among the narrow streets of the old town, symbols of power and domination in times past. The narrow “caruggi” (alleys) create a real labyrinth in which the most unexpected wonders are hidden, just waiting to be discovered and brought to light, such as the majestic Cathedral of St Michael Archangel, the wonderful, perfectly preserved early Christian Baptistery that alone is worth a visit. In the historical centre, you will also come across the Roman Naval Museum in the Peloso Cepolla Palace, where you will discover amphorae and unique artefacts recovered from the Roman ship Artiglio, which sank in the sea opposite the city.

On the island there are tunnels dug during World War II. There are still a few emplacements at the end, where cannons were placed to defend the island.

Discovering Gallinara Island

Lying on a comfortable sun lounger in one of Albenga's equipped beaches, you will soon notice a strange island, with its typical snail like shape, that is one of the undisputed symbols of this area. You can dive into the crystal clear waters surrounding it and enjoy a unique experience, discovering an enchanted world below sea level. Are you ready? Put on your snorkel and off you go on a unique adventure.

Villanova d'Albenga is home to the Clemente Panero International Airport. Opened in 1922, it is intended for private and business flights.

The Albenga poker

The large plain behind the village has allowed the development of unique crops, now under Slow Food’s control. They are the so called “Albenga poker”, vegetables with curious names and unique flavour: the spiny artichoke, the violet asparagus, the ox heart tomato and the trumpet courgette. If after all these extraordinary products you're still not satisfied, don not forget that this is also the area of choice for Pigato wine and extra virgin olive oil.
