Beneath the porticos, by the beach, around the shops or in the restaurants: Chiavari is waiting to be explored. The capital of Tigullio is not just the financial and commercial heart of this part of Liguria but is also a splendid place for tourists and travellers to explore on a discovery of history, traditions and flavours. The medieval historic centre with its 19th-century porticos is where the Chiavari heart beats, along “caruggio dritto”, Via Martiri della Liberazione, rich in shops, restaurants and trattorias where the traditional farinata emerges from hot ovens. The structure of the city is ancient and boasts buildings of the utmost prestige, such as Palazzo Rocca. A must-see is the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Giardino, inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, along with the luxuriant botanical gardens with their greenhouses brimming with orchids. In the hills are the Sanctuary delle Grazie and the Castle, from which splendid views can be enjoyed.
