Taggia town

Taggia town

A heart immersed in the countryside and partially by the sea that offers tourists fantastic seaside holidays: these are the two beating souls of Taggia. A constellation of different hamlets coming together to form a location divided among nature, good food and culture. Arma di Taggia is a little paradise of sea and sun, while Taggia is proud of its agricultural soul: this is the home of the delicious Taggia olives. Its treasures, those most loved by fine food connoisseurs, are hidden in the kitchens of the houses or small restaurants in the hamlet.

Through the centre streets

The historic centre of Taggia is enchanting, with some streets of rare beauty: Via Soleri with its Patrician buildings that overlook the street and the ancient arcades that host antique and craft markets. Via San Dalmazzo enchants with its slate portals where the coats of arms of noble families are carved.

On the last weekend of September, Meditaggiasca takes place, a large market with the exCelle townnce of the territory: Taggiasca oil and olives, Moscatello di Taggia, meetings and show cooking.

Two treasures to discover

Worth seeing is one of the most beautiful convents in the region, the most imposing monumental complex in western Liguria: the Convent of San Domenico. At the centre of the cloister stands a tall palm tree and an olive tree warns that Valle Argentina is the valley of the Taggia cultivar. The imposing medieval, Romanesque bridge is worth a visit.

The first olive tree of a particular quality, brought by the Crusaders, was planted in Taggia as they had enjoyed it during the wars in the Holy Land

Some flavours

Taste the Canestrelli or fennel biscuits, and the so called Figassa, a thick focaccia seasoned with peeled tomatoes, anchovy fillets, olives and garlic. However, the queen of the Taggia based table remains the olive, delicious for appetisers or elaborate recipes, exCelle townnt for the production of highly fragrant oil. There is no better occasion to savour such goodness than the events that take place in Taggia throughout the year.
