86th Giro dell’Appennino

The Giro dell’Appennino, a historic and exciting cycling race with many champions competing, will take place on 24 June 2025, with Via XX Settembre in Genoa as the finishing line

A traditional, world-class cycling appointment: Tuesday, 24 June 2025 will see the 86th Giro dell’Appennino, a race that has always rewarded Liguria with the participation of leading international champions.

Giro dell’Appennino route

The race’s exciting and challenging route taking in both Piedmont and Liguria will end for its tenth time in the centre of Genoa, in Via XX Settembre. The race kicks off from the Elah Dufour factory in Ronco Scrivia, passes through Novi Ligure, in a nod to the Museo dei Campionissimi dedicated to the world of cycling, and then starts its uphill climb: the Castagnola Pass at km 55, then Giovi and Crocetta d’Orero, before reaching the hardest part of the race – the Bocchetta hairpin bends, with slopes of up to 18%. At Pietralavezzara, the route swings east towards Guardia, with slopes of 7-8% rising suddenly to 21% for a 500m climb in the Lencisa area. From there starts the descent towards Genoa, under Ponte San Giorgio, across the overpass and finally to the finishing line in Via XX Settembre.

History of the Giro dell’Appennino

The Giro dell’Appennino is a class 1.1 UCI Europe Tour race for professional cyclists. It has been held every year since 1934, only pausing during World War II (1940-1945). 2025 marks the race’s 86th
year, making it one of Italy’s longest-running and most historic classic cycle races. Moreover, this year’s edition will also be its 32nd as the Regione Liguria Trophy. The race will take place on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, on the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, Genoa’s patron saint, during the year in which Liguria has been declared European Capital of Sport.
