The Infiorate: Liguria’s squares bloom
The infiorate, the most colourful and fragrant of Liguria’s spring traditions: carpets made of petals, created as a sort of floral mandala for the Feast of Corpus Domini, a religious celebration which in 2025 falls on Sunday, 22nd June.
Here are some of the most typical and beautiful ones.
Diano Marina, Festival of Colour
In Imperia, a vast carpet made of millions of petals is created by the Compagnia di Via Carducci, while in Diano Marina, the Feast of Corpus Domini becomes a celebration of colours. On Sunday, 22nd June, in the town centre (Piazza Martiri della Libertà – Via Genala) near the Parish Church of Sant’Antonio Abate, the designs will be set up and the petals laid from 8 p.m. the evening before until the first light of dawn. In the nearby hamlet of Diano Calderina, the streets of the centre will also be adorned with beautiful decorations.
In Brugnato
In the province of La Spezia, in Brugnato, on the day of Corpus Domini, the Infioratori group will create a long, colourful carpet made of thousands of petals, flowers, and leaves along the narrow streets (*carruggi*) of the town. These streets will be transformed into a kaleidoscopic road carpet of incredible beauty and elegance. The floral carpets will be arranged throughout the day, with a concluding evening procession at 9 p.m.
Pietra Ligure in bloom
In Pietra Ligure, every three years (the next edition being in 2025), the International Exhibition of Artistic Infiorate “Pietra Ligure in Fiore” takes place. It is one of the most important events in Europe in terms of the number of participants and the size of the creations. However, in Ranzi, a hamlet of Pietra Ligure, a grand Infiorata is held every year. In a charming little square, in front of the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, the Circolo Giovane Ranzi creates a circular design about seven metres in diameter, known as the “Stella.” This design is hand-made, and it changes every time, starting from the centre and working outward. Not to be missed!
Sassello and its flower-adorned alleys
In Sassello, for Corpus Domini, the narrow streets of this village—one of the most beautiful in Italy—will be filled with flowers for the Infiorata del Corpus Domini. The entire historic centre will be transformed into an immense floral garden, accompanying the procession that will begin at the Parish of the Holy Trinity (SS. Trinità) after mass.
