On the Liguria Trail from La Spezia
The great coastal crossing that connects Luni to Ventimiglia is called Sentiero Liguria (www.sentieroliguria.it) passes through La Spezia and, by combining a section of stage 3 with the part from Pegazzano to Sant’Antonio, creates a splendid itinerary starting from La Spezia.
The journey begins in Pegazzano, using the Via Vecchia di Biassa, which passes by the famous Grotta dell’Orso (Bear’s Cave). Upon reaching Biassa, you take the monumental staircase to Sant’Antonio, passing above Schiara and Monesteroli, eventually arriving at Campiglia.
To continue towards Portovenere, the Sentiero Liguria (Liguria Trail) has chosen the magnificent path that crosses the cliffs of the Bianche and Rosse (White and Red Cliffs), passing through Muzzerone before the breathtaking descent to San Pietro. This route exemplifies the philosophy of the Liguria Trail: as close to the sea as possible, capturing the splendid Ligurian panoramas, easily accessible (via bus, train, or ferry). The path has a medium difficulty level and covers a distance of 11 km.
Appropriate footwear is necessary. For instance, if you start at 8:30am from Pegazzano, you can expect to arrive in Porto Venere around 4:30pm with the return recommended via bus or ferry.
