Celle town

Nestled between Punta dell'Olmo and Punta della Madonnetta lies Celle town Ligure, a beautiful location on the West Coast Riviera, with a long, deep sandy beach overlooked by olive trees, pines and vineyards. If you delve into the old town centre, you will discover buildings rich in history such as Palazzo Ferri, the church of Nostra Signora della Consolazione, behind which a section of the ancient road to the neighbouring towns starts. Today it is the splendid Romana promenade, from which one can enjoy the colour palette of Liguria: the crystal blue of the Blue Flag sea, the green of the palm trees, the red and grey slate of the roofs.

Celle town, or rather one of its hamlets, Pecorile, was also the birthplace of a famous Pope, Sixtus IV, promoter of the Sistine Chapel, later frescoed by Michelangelo.

Art....

Perhaps you did not know that Celle town guards an authentic 16th century treasure, the Polyptych of San Michele, commissioned by the village fishermen to Perin del Vaga, Raphael's collaborator, who at the time was busy frescoing the Palace of Prince Andrea Doria in Genoa. You will find it in the Church of S. Michele where you can admire other works by De Ferrari, Fiasella, Piola, Maragliano, as well as the beautiful organ.

Giuseppe Olmo, known as Gepin, created the 'Cicli Olmo' brand out of his profession and passion.

... and sports for all tastes

Celle town offers history but also many sports activities to choose from. You are spoilt for choice: from canoeing to sailing, from fishing to horse riding in the nearby equestrian centre, to name but a few. After all, Celle town became world famous thanks to a great cycling champion from Celle town, Giuseppe Olmo.

In Celle town, the equipped free beaches are worth a visit for the wide range of services they offer. Thanks to its beaches, child-friendly establishments, events, dedicated spaces and the car-free promenade, Celle town Ligure is known as the City of Children.

A child friendly village

Celle town Ligure has always been very attentive to children, and has created a magical place for them to play, experiment, and learn: the Mago Merlino Municipal Playroom. In summer, the village also becomes the 'Land of Children' thanks to 'NaviCelle town' with workshops, shows and a theatre course.
