Portofino Park – In the heart of blue
Portofino Park – In the heart of blue
The Portofino Marine Protected Area was established in 1999, it extends along the coast of the Portofino promontory for about 15 kilometres, it occupies 376 hectares of sea and, from a regulatory point of view, is divided into three reserve areas: A (integral), B and C. The protection, over all these years, has made it possible to safeguard exceptional fish fauna and flora, starting with the posidonia meadows, which are unique worldwide. For all these reasons, this small - but exceptional - area is a true paradise for divers.

Immerse yourself in beauty
The area contains some of the most interesting and intact seabed in the Mediterranean. The famous Portofino red coral grows here and few places in the Mediterranean can boast such a great variety and concentration of biodiversity. It is the ideal place for underwater photography and video shooting enthusiasts, with some twenty diving spots such as the Faro, Liscia, Punta Vessinaro, Cala degli Inglesi, Il diamante, Testa del Leone, Scoglio del Raviolo, Colombara, Dragone, Punta Torretta, Grotta dell'eremita, Punta Chiappa and Secca dell'Isulea. These original names are a dream map for divers and diving enthusiasts.
The Posidonia oceanica meadow at Porto Pidocchio, to the west of the Portofino promontory extends over more than 25 hectares.
The three areas
Area A includes only the inlet known as Cala Dell'Oro and is an integral reserve area. Area B extends off Punta Chiappa with submerged reefs of great naturalistic value. The C areas extend to the sides of the promontory where there are posidonia meadows rich in animal life.
The marine area is part of the Cetacean Sanctuary, where you can encounter dolphins, especially at dawn and dusk.
La tonnarella
A Slow Food Presidium, the 'tonnarella' is the only one left in Liguria and one of the few remaining in operation in Italy, and is located in a marine protected area not far from Punta Chiappa. This is a traditional and highly sustainable fishing system as only medium to large fish remain trapped in the mechanism of the chambers created by the fishing net.
