BUSSANA VECCHIA – The ghost village comes back to life with artists and craftsmen

Arts & Movies Villages

Journey to the ghost village brought back to life by its artists and craftsmenAlong the coast between Sanremo and Taggia, on the top of a gentle rocky hill overlooking the sea, stands Bussana Vecchia, one of the most mysterious and fascinating villages of the Riviera dei Fiori. Here, time seems to have stopped in 1887, the year when the village was destroyed by a strong earthquake that seemed to have ended the thousand-year history of Bussana Vecchia. For about 70 years, the old village was abandoned. In the 1960s, after about seventy years of silence, a community of artists began the partial restoration of the less damaged buildings, bringing the village back to life with art workshops and art exhibitions.During the excursion we will also visit Bussana Nuova, the town built further down the valley, about 3 km from the old village, to visit the Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and admire the characteristic Ligurian pine forest overlooking the sea.
