The valleys of Liguria also have one advantage over many other areas: the hinterland is always just a few kilometres from the sea, and from the mountains and villages the view often opens up to the Mediterranean. Charm and uniqueness make it a real experience to go in search of ancient villages, medieval hamlets, castles, fortresses, churches and 'crose', as the Ligurians call the narrow streets leading into the hills. Traditions that are still alive and therefore authentic, also reflecting in gastronomy and local recipes: there is one for every village or locality.
