Hinterland

Narrow and scenic, often isolated for centuries and therefore unspoilt: the valleys of Liguria are a treasure trove of beauty and history.

The valleys of Liguria also have one advantage over many other areas: the hinterland is always just a few kilometres from the sea, and from the mountains and villages the view often opens up to the Mediterranean. Charm and uniqueness make it a real experience to go in search of ancient villages, medieval hamlets, castles, fortresses, churches and 'crose', as the Ligurians call the narrow streets leading into the hills. If you love history and active holidays, the hinterland of Liguria will never disappoint you. Here you really perceive how man has adapted to the landscape and endeavoured to make the utmost of it, in a difficult land squeezed between the sea and the mountains. You will lose yourself in breathtaking landscapes, mountains and ancient streets overlooking the sea, traditions and legends, forests and medieval villages rich in history, often characterised by the dynamics of some of the noble families of the Republic of Genoa, such as the Doria or the Fieschi. Traditions that are still alive and therefore authentic, also reflecting in gastronomy and local recipes: there is one for every village or locality. A land that is never the same and where every corner has different influences as in Liguria the exchange of goods, as well as thoughts and words, is part of the DNA and identity of every place.
